ENG 3705 Romantic English (January 2016)
I have left the project folders for students who want them in office 1 (the one that contains the text books). I told the staff to look after them for 2 weeks so please collect them AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you want them. Thanks again for all the great work.

Folder feedback
There was some tremendous work today. I was genuinely amazed by the hard work and effort that students put in. Not only did people have great ideas but they were able to put them into practice and work as part of a team to produce the work together.
I witnessed a literature project presented in the form of a tree, a secret wall illuminated by neon light through a mobile phone torch, Japanese style artwork and calligraphy, people travelling to the airport to take two shots, etc etc. The list goes on. You should all be proud of yourselves. You have done your generation proud.
I read through the work and it was clear that most students engaged with the book and thought about it on a deeper level than even I expected. Some of the ideas made me think about the true meaning of the text and gave me a better understanding of it myself.
The work was very creative. I tried to award high grades to any groups who produced creative work that had a good in depth summary/breakdown of the literature as well. Some groups focused on creativity rather than the actual summary, but I tried to award high marks in accordance with the grading scheme that I had previously provided below.
Any groups who received 0 copied work off the internet. I clearly stated that this was unacceptable in the grading scheme below (even if the project was creative).

Picking folders up
I have taken home the folders people asked me to keep safe. I will return them when I am next in IIS (on January 29th). Please come and find me on this day, or I will leave them in the office.
he other folders have been left at the NMB Building in our room on the 5th floor. The staff have been informed not to throw them away quickly, so please collect them as soon as possible. There was some great work...it would be a shame if any of it was wasted.

Trigger warnings. Appropriate or not?
My opinion is that at university level, they are not necessary, but I would still like to warn students that certain parts of the book have strong sexual imagery. You are welcome to leave the classroom during these parts of the book. There will be no questions in the final exam on these parts.

Recommended further reading (after this course ends):
1. The Wind Up Bird Chronicle (quite surreal, but fairly easy to follow. Considered his best book)
2. Kafka on the Shore (very surreal, but still easy to follow. Some also consider this his best)
3. 1Q84 (easy to follow, and easy to read. His longest most recent book)
4. South of The Border, West of the Sun (considered a good starting point novel)
5. After Dark (short, and easy to follow)
