Today we:

• Went through the basic structure of the class
  
• Discussed Monopthongs and Diphthongs
  

• Discussed the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet)
  
• Discussed the 3 things that make up a dialect

          -Vocabulary (lexis)
          -Grammar (rules)
          -Pronunciation (focus of this class)

• Discussed RP (Received Pronunciation) and GA (General American)

• Did exercises 2.1-2.4 and went through the answers
  

• Arranged the groups
  

• Introduced 2 IPA symbols    /æ/ rat        and        /eɪ/    pay

• We looked at 2 new monopthongs     /e/    (bed, leg)  and     /iː/    (meat, leave)
  
• Did exercise 6.1-6.3
• Spent time in groups discussing the presentation
