In today's class we:
- Worked on chapter 7 (p15) in the morning about formal/informal words. Went through the answers (p205)
- Re-capped irony/co-incidence. I mentioned the famous Jack Nicholson quote about irony.....“My mother never saw the irony in calling me a son-of-a-bitch!”

- Did a 6 word sentence writing competition about the topic of "IIS." See this website for many examples http://www.smithteens.com/

- Went through the video exercise from the last class
- Discussed idioms. Use this website for the definitions of many idioms http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/
- Did chapter 78 (p156) about idioms
- Spent some time in groups after lunch working on the presentations
- Looked at metaphors and similes
- Did a quick creative writing exercise about similes "IIS is like......." Try to be original when writing similes/metaphors. George Orwell said using unoriginal phrases is like a "packet of aspirins always at one's elbow."
- Did Quiz 1 in our groups
