- Discussed some common mistakes of Thai-English (see slide)
- Looked at a famous sentence of the day (see below)
- Looked at a general sentence of the day (see below)
- Discussed the presentation
- Covered basic parts of English (nouns, adjectives etc.) (p10)
- Looked at prefixes (p14)
- Did a video exercise (you had to find 5 idioms based on the episode we watched. We will discuss it in the next class)
- Discussed the importance of idioms
- I gave a list of 10 essential idioms:
He got his marching orders- To tell someone to leave
It was a piece of cake- It was easy
Hook, line and sinker- To be completely tricked by something
Get on like a house on fire- People who get on with each other really well
Like water off a duck’s back- When someone is not affected at all by something negative
Snake in the grass- Someone deceitful
It’s not all it’s cracked up to be- Something which fails to be as good as promised
He’s rolling in it- Someone who is very rich
I’m over the moon- Someone who is extremely happy
To fall by the wayside- To fail or give up on something
