In today's class we:
- Recapped hooks from the last class
- Looked at some famous puns (see below)
- Mentioned thesis statements. A basic, but effective thesis statement for this course would be:
There should be 3 main points summarised in the thesis statements which match the main body paragraph topics.
- Summarised what introductions should include
- Did an introduction writing exercise based on the title "Dark chocolate is good" where you had to write a hook, definition of key terms, background and thesis statement
- Talked about the order of arguments in the main body paragraphs. Most people said that the structure should be like this:
Main Body Paragraph 2 - 3rd strongest argument (weakest)
Main Body Paragraph 3 - 1st strongest argument (strongest)
However, it was noted that this can change depending on the circumstance and style of the essay
- Looked at the best examples
- Did p96-97-98 of the course book
- Did Quiz 1
