In today's class we:
- Introduced 3 new vowel sounds (all monopthongs) /ʌ/ under AND /ʊ/ book AND /uː/ soon
- Discussed single vowel exclamations
- Introduced 3 new vowel sounds: /ɔɪ/ toy, coin AND /ɔː/ for. caught, law AND / aʊ / sound, brown
- Did a quick test to re-cap the vowel sounds covered so far
- Did an IPA writing exercise where students had to write a sentence in IPA form and then the other students had to try to convert it back into English
- Did exercise 20.1 and 20.3
- Watched a video clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7E-aoXLZGY with Stephen Fry talking about language. I then mentioned the different forms of emphasis that he used and why his pronunciation is a good example to follow
- Did Quiz 2
- Watched an episode of Eastenders and analysed it for the 'cockney' accent and common features of it
